You may know this specimen as the Sweet Pepper Bush, but the Summersweet produces spicy sweet fragrant blooms, not vegetables. 3 -6” long clusters of flowers known as inflorescence cover the Summersweet from summer through fall.
A proven winner in zones 4 – 9, Summersweet will grow to a heigh or 5 – 8 feet in full sun or partial shade. Summersweet requires moist, slightly acidic soil and will not perform well in heat and dry soil conditions. For that reason it is a great option for areas with poor drainage.
