Leycesteria: (Pheasant Berry) A Striking Shrub That Shines in the Perennial Garden

Leycesteria exhibits beautiful yellow-green foliage with red new growth for striking color in the landscape. In summer dangling 4” long white flowers with dark purple bracts are produced that form dark purple berries in the fall. Butterflies and birds, including pheasants (Pheasant Berry) love the edible berries that taste like caramel or chocolate.

Deer resistant Leycesteria may be planted in sun or part shade with a habit that is 3-5 feet tall and wide. Leycesteria may be pruned in late fall or early spring but dies back in northern states (root hardy). Suited for the perennial border or the patio container.
