Caryopteris: Abundant Blue Flowers for an Intense Floral Display (Bluebeard)

From summer through fall Caryopteris delights with beautiful fragrant blue blooms that are set against a backdrop of yellow or dark green foliage. Butterflies adore the rich blue flowers that may be cut to add interest to floral arrangements. Deer resistant and drought tolerant, Bluebeard requires full sun and loose, well-drained soil. Caryopteris is perfect for those drier areas of the garden or landscape.
With a 2’ to 4’ height and spread, Caryopteris forms a mounded habit that requires little pruning, but may be trimmed to shape. Northern states may experience some winter die back, but Bluebeard is root hardy and since blooms develop on new wood (current season's growth) summer flowering is not affected. Use Caryopteris as a specimen or border shrub and in mass plantings. Add a controlled release fertilizer in early spring to promote a healthly season long shrub.
