Rhododendron: Welcome Spring With a Burst of Color

Rhododendrons explode with color in the spring and brighten up the landscape. Rhododendrons require full sun to part shade exposure and grow best in well-drained soil. Some shade is recommended for Rhododendron in southern climates while northern climates will benefit from some winter protection. In early spring a controlled release fertilizer for rhododendrons may be applied and trimming should be done after flowering.

Rhododendron ‘Amy Cotta’ is an early flowering, compact size reaching 2-3 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide with blooms of pink-lavender that have ruffled edges. Bollywood™ reaches 1.5-2 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide, has red-pink blooms, then provides color after the flowering season with variegated foliage of green leaves and white margins. More compact Rhododendrons fit nicely into tight spaces and are great for edging walkways. Use them in the perennial bed, borders, or as specimen plants.
