Clethra: Summer Delivers Sweetly Scented Flowers (Summer Sweet)

The fragrant white flowers of Clethra bloom in late summer through fall against dark green glossy foliage. Perfect for wildlife gardens, Clethras sweetly scented blooms attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Gather a bouquet of cut blooms to enjoy the sweet aroma inside. Adding to its appeal, the foliage of Summer Sweet shifts to yellow in the fall.

Hardy to zones 4 to 9, Clethra may be planted in sun or part shade and prefers moist soils. Clethra has upright/mounded habits, blooms on new wood, and needs little pruning but may be trimmed to shape in late winter or early spring. A native and deer resistant shrub, Clethra looks great in perennial or shrub borders.
