Uniquely Spherical Flower-heads (Button Bush)
Cephalanthus is Native to North America requiring moist to wet soils perfect for the waters edge or bog. A deciduous shrub with glossy foliage Button Bush varieties may range from 3-12 feet in height and may be planted in sun to part shade. In summer, Cephalanthus produces long lasting fragrant spherical flowers that resemble pincushions with its fringe of pistils and attracts butterflies and hummingbirds.
Fall produces globe-shaped seed head fruit that may be consumed by ducks and other water birds. Cephalanthus is easy to maintain and blooms on new wood so it is best trimmed in the early spring. Cephalanthus may be planted en masse, in the mixed border, or by ponds and along the waters edge to enhance your landscape.
