A Native, Adaptable Plant for the Perennial Border (New Jersey Tea)
Ceanothus is a native, drought tolerant shrub that grows well in sun or part shade. In late spring, lavender blue flowers cover a compact mound of dark green foliage. Shear, Ceanothus lightly, after blooming to encourage a stronger summer rebloom. In late summer, red seed head pods form creating winter interest for your landscape.
New Jersey Tea is hardy in zones 6-9 and is considered a semi-evergreen in the southern states and dies back to the ground in the northern states (roots are hardy). Great for the perennial border, Ceanothus attracts butterflies and is also great for cuttings!
