(Honey Suckle) Sugar Mountain® Blue Lonicera, also known as Haskap or Honeyberry, is one of the newest must-have berry plants for the garden. They are extremely cold hardy and can be grown in zones 1-6. (Yes, you read that right! They are hardy in USDA zone 1!) These berry plants are native to North America, are deer-resistant, and easy to grow. Grow Sugar Mountain® Blue Lonicera as a hedge or as a backdrop to other landscape plants. Just make sure the shrubs are easy to access, because you’ll want to be able to harvest and eat all of the sweet and juicy fruit.

Plant Haskap bushes in full sun to partial shade. They tolerate a wide range of soil moisture conditions. These plants flower and produce fruit on old growth, so prune the plants after you harvest the fruit. Wait until the plants have been in the ground for at least three years to prune and remove no more than 1/3 of the growth at one time. With a little bit of care and establishment, Sugar Mountain® Blue Lonicera shrubs can be a functional and edible addition to the landscape.
