Laurus is native to the southern Mediterranean region and will grow as an evergreen in USDA Hardiness Zones 8-10. Varieties may vary greatly in size and height but with an upright habit they work well in the border or as a specimen or focal point in the landscape. Laurus is an aromatic, deer resistant shrub that requires well-drained soil in a full sun location. Laurus blooms on old wood and may be trimmed in late winter. Regular watering during the first growing season will establish a deep, extensive root system. Fertilize Laurus in early spring with a slow release fertilizer specialized for trees and shrubs. Follow the label for recommended rate of application.
