In late spring to early summer Genista comes alive with sunny yellow flowers that bloom for three to six weeks then nearly leafless, bright green arching stems provide interesting texture. Genista is well suited for containers, rock gardens, and ground covers.

This deer resistant shrub likes well-drained soil, is drought tolerant, and adapts well to poor soil conditions. Genista forms a low-mounding habit reaching only 1-2 feet in height and 2-3 feet in width and requires no pruning but may be trimmed after flowering if desired. Hardy to zones 4-9.
