Callicarpa is deciduous shrub appreciated for its iridescent purple berries that line and hug the branches in the fall providing food for many species of songbirds. Callicarpa forms an upright habit of 3-5 feet tall and wide with green foliage that may display purple tinges on long arching branches for spring thru fall interest.
Easy to maintain, Callicarpa prefers medium well-drained soils, blooms on new growth, and is best trimmed back in early spring to encourage optimum berry production. Callicarpa is attractive in mixed borders and perennial beds as well as great additions to cutting gardens since the purple berried stalks make beautiful decorative accents in floral arrangements.
