Rhododendron - Amy Cotta Rhododendron

(Rhododendron) 'Amy Cotta'  is an early flowering Rhododendron that is compact in size. This slow growing, miniature variety forms a compact mound that is 2-3 foot tall and 3-4 foot wide. The early blooming (late April-early May) mass of  flowers are pinkish- lavender in color, with a lightly ruffled edge. 'Amy Cotta' foliage is a dense, azalea type leaf that is smaller and darker than its parent plant 'PJM'. 'Amy Cotta' is an evergreen shrub that is perfect for smaller gardens. It also can be used in your landscape as a border plant, focal point, specimen or a great addition to your woodland garden. 'Amy Cotta' prefers somewhat acidic, rich, moist, well drained soils. If planting in sand or clay we recommend amending your soil with peat moss or compost. Rhododendrons have shallow roots and can easily dry out. We recommend mulching to hold in the moisture, but also keep in mind not to over water. 'Amy Cotta' grows well in sun to part shade; in warmer climates we recommend part shade. We recommend trimming 'Amy Cotta' right after she blooms, as the buds for next season are set on the 'old' growth.
