Leycesteria - Golden Lanterns® Pheasant Berry

(Pheasant Berry) This splashy cool shrub rocks the perennial world! Golden Lanterns® is a fantastic shrub for the perennial garden or as a color piece for the patio. It's a graceful, easy growing plant with attractive, clean, bright yellow-green foliage that has hints of red in the new growth. In mid-summer Golden Lanterns® is covered with 4" long pendulous drooping clusters of dark purplish-red bracts and white flowers. The stems are hollow like bamboo and are used to create flutes in Asia. Commonly known a Pheasant Berry; Golden Lanterns®  produces dark purple fall fruit that does indeed attract pheasants along with other wildlife. These berries are edible and taste like caramel or chocolate. Dies back to the ground in the northern states (roots are hardy).
